FAQ

Is HTML5 different than HTML?

No, HTML5 is the same as HTML, with some additional elements and the deprication of some HTML elements that were in use by HTML 4.01.

I have seen new books and courses titled "HTML5 Programming". Is "HTML5 Programming" a new Programming Language?

No, this is misleading. HTML5 is HTML. HTML is not a programming language, it is a markup language. HTML5 includes access to the use of Web APIs, which are interfaces to Javascript code that can add functionality to a Web page. The code is still written in Javascript, and your HTML5 Web page can include that code, but it is still written in Javascript! It would be a lot less misleading to call it "HTML5 Javascript Programming" or "Advanced Javascript WebAPI Programming".

Are Java and Javascript the same language?

Absolutely not. They are two completely different languages that just happen to have similar names.

The website I'm on right now (Moodle) is part of Austin Community College's website?

No, this is my personal learning management system that I provide to my students only. The other instructors have their own method of running their classes. I enter your grades into ACC's Datatel system at the end of each class, so the grades you see here are not your official grades. To see your official grades you need to use ACC's student services web application.
